Theme I: The Arch | Time

by Lawrence Wu

Life moves pretty fast. If you don’t stop and look around once in a while, you could miss it.
– Ferris Bueller

There is an infinite amount of stories that go on everyday but we seldom take the time to realize it. We sit to come and ponder, or we come to not think at all – letting the fountain water shoot endlessly into the sky, reading and rereading, “Let us raise a new standard…” We come to be amused, to spend time alone, to be near people without knowing much more, but, we, independent, forward thinking, no bullshit New Yorkers don’t always like to admit that it’s others that draw us here, that make us feel less alone with our thoughts. And, maybe, you find yourself sitting at the end of the park bench or the edge of the fountain, and you’ll notice the stranger sitting next to you. Maybe it’s a “she” or a “he”, and maybe he’s a poor drunk or a lost midlife crisis banker. Maybe you don’t say the right words or maybe you don’t have enough change to grab that taxi ride back home, but one thing is for sure – they come here to pass the time, to watch, to listen, to think, to see.

To be human – like you.
