Hearing my instructions to walk twenty feet from Downstein and a few paces past the women’s restroom was like hearing directions to the wizarding world. But entering the home studio of WNYU, NYU’s radio station was pretty magical. Heaped with haphazard stacks of discs and vinyl records, the space features several recording studios, an extensive vintage vinyl record collection, and a live broadcasting studio. Streaming online and in the Tri-state area at 89.1 FM, WNYU is your best bet for discovering edgy, “non-top 40” sounds and student hosted talk shows. The team often interviews up and coming artists who, in the past, have included Eminem and Kanye West. The best part? The door’s always open and visitors are welcome.
